"Formerly the Warwick Stakes"
The Winx Stakes (formerly Warwick Stakes) is a Group 1 race over 1400m at Randwick, named after the champion mare Winx. It often serves as a first-up target for quality weight-for-age horses returning in spring.
Renamed in 2020 to honour Winx, who won 37 consecutive races including 25 Group 1s. Previous notable winners include Lonhro and many spring campaign hopefuls.
Royal Randwick is one of Australia's premier racecourses, hosting some of the nation's richest races including The Everest. Known as "Headquarters" by Sydney racing fans, it features a challenging 2200m circumference with a long straight.
