"The Champions Day Feature"
The Champions Stakes (formerly Mackinnon Stakes) is a Group 1 weight-for-age race over 2000m at Flemington on the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
First run in 1869, it concludes the carnival in style. Winners include Makybe Diva (2004) and So You Think (2011).
Home of the Melbourne Cup, Flemington is Australia's most famous racecourse. Its distinctive straight six and sweeping turns have hosted racing since 1840. The Melbourne Cup Carnival draws international attention each November.
